A raccoon was caught in a trap set illegally near a school in Norfolk. A resident found a raccoon dragging a spring-loaded leg-hold trap around her leg and called wildlife officials. The raccoon was freed then euthanized.

A 3-pawed grizzly bear that turned up in Denali National Park and Preserve last summer with a bloody stump for a right, front paw was again sighted. It was conjectured that the bear may have lost its paw in a trapping snare meant for a wolf or lynx.

A dog was caught in a leghold trap set underwater to catch muskrats in a duckpond behind near the victim’s residence. The dog’s guardian was able to pry the trap open to release her dog.

A bobcat was caught in an illegal snare for 12 hours on private property in Lane County and was rescued by Predator Defense.

Max, a lab, was caught in a leg-hold trap for almost 2 weeks before being discovered by his guardian after running off into the woods. Max was dehydrated, malnourished and his foot was in bad shape – one of his toes had started to rot and had to be amputated.

A bobcat was caught in an illegal snare on private property. The animal was able to be freed.

A cat was caught in a conibear trap set by a neighbor out to catch groundhogs. The cat, although injured, survived.

A Laborador Retriever was killed by a conibear trap set between its guardian’s fence and their neighbors. The trapper was served with a notice and paid a fine of $142.

An Anchor Point trapper has been charged with state and federal crimes for trapping lynx out of season and taking a bald eagle (in violation of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act) and raven (in violation of the U.S. Federal Migratory Bird Act). Another trapper also faces charges of possessing an illegally taken lynx.

Shane, an Australian Shepherd, was accompanying two horseback riders when he was caught in a foothold trap. The woman and her friend worked together to push on the levers and was able to free Shane. They found a second trap nearby.
