June 14, 2011 Putnam Lake, NY A woman died after apparently being bitten by her pet Black Mamba. The woman also had more than six dozen snakes, 56 of which were poisonous, including a cobra, which is illegal to possess without a permit. A state investigation is underway. June 11, 2011 Milford, CT A mountain lion was killed when hit by a SUV on a highway in Milford, Conneticut. With no native moutain lion population in the state, authorities suspect the animal had either escaped, or was released, from captivity. Big Cats
June 10, 2011 Valparaiso, IN An alligator bit a 7-year old boy at a theme park in Norhtwest Indiana after an unrelated visitor invited children around the exhibit to pet it. The child was treated at the scene then taken to a hospital. Reptiles
June 9, 2011 Fremont, OH A 6 year old grivet monkey escaped and was on the loose for about two hours. During the time he was loose, he scratched two young girls. The children did not need medical attention and the monkey was recaptured by his guardian. May 13, 2011 Wichita, KS A first-grader on a field trip to the Sedgwick County Zoo was mauled by a leopard after the boy scaled a railing and approached the animal’s cage. The boy received lacerations to his head and neck after the leopard stuck a paw through its cage and grabbed the boy by the side of his head.
