June 30, 2011 Twin Rocks, PA An 8-foot python is on the loose in the Twin Lakes area. A neighbor caught the snake, but the snake escaped and cannot be found. Officials were not sure where the snake came from or who owns the snake. Reptiles
June 28, 2011 Lansing, IL Cook County sheriff’s deputies seized two Capuchin monkeys from a woman’s home in south suburban Lansing following a tip. One of the monkeys, an “undernourished” female, was living in a small wire dog cage and the other, a male was in a large metal cage meant for birds. The cages were covered in excrement and cigarette butts. Five dogs kept in small, filthy cages were also seized. None of the animals had water or food. Possessor faces two counts of possession of dangerous animals and four counts of neglect of owner’s duties. Primates
June 25, 2011 Baltimore, MD A second dolphin calf died at the National Aquarium, less than a week after the first baby dolphin died. Cause of death is unknown. Of the 14 calves born at the aquarium since 1992, five died within their first year, and two more died as juveniles. Marine
June 23, 2011 Indianapolis, IN The Indianapolis Zoo announced Thursday that the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin that was born earlier this month has died. Circumstances surrounding the dolphin’s death are not yet known. A necropsy did not reveal a cause. All adult females have lost calves and only 3 calves have made it to adulthood since the zoo acquired dolphins. Marine

June 21, 2011 Myrtle Beach, SC Resident in the neighborhood of the Forestbrook area have been reporting sightings of a six-foot albino python. This snake is believed to be a former pet as albino pythons are not native to South Carolina. Reptiles
June 20, 2011 Hernando, FL 17 alligators escaped from a farm by digging under a fence. Nine were later captured, but 8 still remain missing. The case is under investigation by Florida Fish and Wildlife officials and neighborhood residents are told to be on the lookout. The owner of the alligator farm has been cited for maintaining wildlife in an unsafe or unsanitary condition, a second degree misdemeanor. Reptiles
June 18, 2011 Cincinnati, OH A nearly 6-foot Burmese Python was found slithering around the back of a fast food restaurant in Cincinnati. It is suspected that the snake is a former pet and has been placed in temporary care with the SPCA. Reptiles
June 16, 2011 North Versailles, PA A family’s 10-year old Pigtail Macaque was confiscated by officials from a family who didn’t possess a permit. The family is fighting to get the macaque back through court proceedings. Primates
June 15, 2011 Lawrenceville, GA The Yerkes National Primate Research Center is searching for a missing 2-year old female rhesus monkey. The primate was discovered missing a week ago. Center administrators have notified Emory’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, the National Center for Research Resources, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Gwninett County Police.
