Recent bloodwork showed that he had entered end-stage kidney failure, with a noticeable decline in health and quality of life.

Berani came to Denver from Audubon Nature Institute in 2017 on a survival plan and breeding recommendation.

HUGO, OK – A tiger handler was fatally mauled and died in Oklahoma recently as horrified onlookers – including his wife and daughter – watched during the end of a big cat show, local officials said Monday.

Ryan Easley, 37, was dead when deputies arrived on Saturday at the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve near Hugo, not far from the Texas border, just minutes after dispatchers received an emergency call, said the Choctaw county sheriff, Terry Park. Park said the tiger unexpectedly started to bite and then shake Easley while the two were inside of a large cage.

“It was a big tiger,” Park told the Associated Press. “This particular one – he’d had for quite some time.” All tours have been canceled until further notice, the statement said. A certificate of veterinary inspection provided to the AP by Humane World shows two 11-month-old tigers obtained by Easley in 2012 came from the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, which was owned and operated by Joe Exotic, the subject of the television show Tiger King.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said Easley acquired his tigers from Joseph Maldonado, better known as Joe Exotic, and Bhagavan “Doc” Antle, who both starred in the Netflix series “Tiger King.” The attack came just days after a zookeeper was killed by several lions at a safari park in Thailand.

The zoo also offered other elephants, Brittany and Belle, the opportunity to enter the stall with her to give them space to see and smell Ruth, which is normal behavior for socially bonded animals when one of them passes away. Each elephant was given time alone with Ruth to process her death. Ruth also fell and was unable to get up on her own earlier this month.

She arrived at the Milwaukee County Zoo in December 2006, joining Brittany, who came to the Zoo in June 2001. Belle was the latest addition to the herd in 2019.

“The monkey is owned by Zootastic Park in Troutman, and we are actively working with them to ensure the animal is safely recaptured,” the agency wrote in a Facebook post, before sharing an important safety reminder.

TROUTMAN, NC – A capuchin monkey that had escaped a zoo in North Carolina was hit by a car, according to animal services. The monkey broke out of the Zootastic Park on Wednesday, Sept. 17, before being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday. When they arrived at the scene of the crash, officers said the monkey was still alive.

Animal service officials did not provide any updates on the monkey’s condition. Scottie Brown, the owner of Zootastic Park, confirmed the monkey is from his zoo and stated that he and others were looking for it. Brown said the monkey was able to escape the zoo by pulling the wire bars apart and sliding through them.
