Little Foot arrived at the sanctuary in 2025 with her mom, Dee Dee and aunt, Izzy.* An olive baboon, Little Foot's first year of life is largely unknown. What we do know is that Dee Dee and Izzy were exploited in a laboratory, which means Little Foot was likely born there. Both adult baboons have had one of their legs amputated. As we rescued the monkeys through a number of different intermediaries, we do not know why the amputations occurred; whether as part of whatever testing they were subjected to, or for medical purposes. Thankfully, Dee Dee and Izzy do a great job at getting around despite their limb differences and (almost) manage to keep up with energetic Little Foot.
In the first weeks after her arrival, Little Foot stayed close to her mom and would squeal if any caregivers looked at her. Her love of food overrides any fear she may have though as she is quick to approach us for food and treats, although she sometimes squeals at us while doing so.
We are excited to watch Little Foot grow and thrive and look forward to updating you on this tiny monkey with an enormous personality!
* It is unlikely that Izzy is Little Foot’s biological family but she certainly earns the moniker of "aunt" for playing her part in caring for Little Foot!
If you adopt Little Foot, consider also adopting Creed or Oscar, two other monkeys rescued from laboratory exploitation.
