Lions

The total population of lions across Africa has fallen from 100,000 in the 1960 to only 20,000 today. Asiatic lions, numbering fewer than 500, are only found in the Gir Forest in the Indian State of Gujarat. Lions face numerous threats, including habitat loss, depletion of food, poaching, trophy hunting, canned hunting, and exploitation for entertainment and the exotic pet trade.

Protect these precious animals by symbolically adopting a lion! Your adoption gift supports our work to publish reports that expose the ways lions and other wildlife are exploited and endangered; advocate for the passage of legislation like the Big Cat Public Safety Act; deliver specialized training and resources to support enforcement officers with the identification of and seizure of trafficked lion parts; and protect lions and other animals from poachers. For only $60 a year or $7 a month, you can create a brighter future for these animals.

In addition to knowing you are protecting this species, you will receive an adoption package that includes an adoption certificate, a species information sheet, a photo of a lion in the wild, and updates about our campaigns work. You can maximize your adoption gift by selecting the check box that reads "I'd like to increase the amount that helps lions by making this adoption virtual" to receive adoption materials via email (without a plush toy).
