WALKER, LA – There’s a large reptile on the loose in Livingston Parish. Michael Lauraine says his Nile monitor lizard was last seen near Alysha Drive and Joe May Road in Walker on Saturday. Lauraine posted on his Facebook page and a missing pets Facebook page Monday about the lizard, asking people to help find him.

“The more time that passes by, the bigger he will get and the more dangerous he will become,” he said. The two and a half foot-long Nile monitor is native to Sub-Saharan Africa and classified as an invasive species. Lauraine says the lizard will attack and urges whoever finds the lizard to not touch him.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – Manhattan authorities say an alligator has been spotted along Wildcat Creek. The Riley County Police Department says a new alligator was spotted in the Linear Trail area and that the gator is not a threat to humans but caution should be used and residents should stay on the trail. Animal Control Officers say they were notified and able to locate a small alligator measuring 3 – 3.5 ft. swimming in the creek. One alligator was found dead in Wildcat Creek in mid-June when it fell in the water after being caught in a live trap.

Police and animal control have been searching for a monkey on the loose since Monday. They even used ATV’s and drones to try and find it, but no luck so far. Local veterinarians believe it may have been a pet that got out. But having a monkey as a pet in Massachusetts is illegal. And right now, the animal is roaming around in people’s backyards.

April 8th — A North Carolina animal sanctuary is appealing to the public for help locating a Eurasian eagle owl that escaped from the facility. The Predator or Prey Wildlife Sanctuary in Richlands said the exotic bird, named Quill, escaped from the sanctuary Thursday and has since been spotted in the Bannermans Mill and Catherine Lake area.

“Even though Quill was raised in captivity he is still a wild animal and because he can’t hunt for himself he is hungry,” McNerny said. “However, he is not a threat to people or pets and will most likely avoid cats, dogs, and chickens.”

On Tuesday, July 30, 2019, a woman driving home from work in Oceola Township in Michigan spotted a gator scurrying across the road in front of her vehicle, according to a news release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found the 2-foot-long, 10-pound creature a few feet from the road near a pine tree and captured it safely. It’s been turned over to the Livingston County Animal Shelter and will be taken to the Critchlow sanctuary if not claimed.

DAYTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A man fatally shot an escaped alligator after he says the reptile lunged at him at his rural Michigan property.

Derrick Fells says he was collecting minnows Saturday in Tuscola County’s Dayton Township when he heard a “hissing” sound and the alligator tried to attack. Fells said that he apparently startled the reptile, and it “turned on me.” He says he shot it with a pistol and called 911. The sheriff’s office says the reptile was 5 to 6 feet (1.5 to 1.8 meters) long.

Investigators determined that the alligator escaped from a fenced enclosure at a nearby property where an exotic animal rescue was operating. Two other alligators are there, along with snakes, tortoises, turtles and emus.

MILFORD, MI – People in a Milford neighborhood lassoed their neighbor’s pet gator when they found it tromping across their yard after it made an escape.

The owner of the 4-foot-long gator named Puff took it back home. The alligator had a small harness around the front of his body, with a broken wire attached. Police were able to reach the owner, who was at a Madison Heights water park with his family, and he arrived about an hour later, taping the alligator’s mouth shut and carrying him home.
