Three Bison Shot and Killed by Deputies after Injuring Owner
Summary:
FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO – Sheriff’s deputies in Franklin County shot and killed three bison Tuesday after the animals escaped a nearby corral and injured one of their owners. Franklin County Sheriff Steve Pelton said the bison were approaching the community of St. Albans after escaping the nearby farm, and deputies couldn’t risk the danger to the public. Video showed the bison walking through the golf course at the Country Club of St. Albans prior to deputies responding.
Chief Jim Casey with the Boles Fire Protection District said when the bison initially got loose earlier in the day, crews were called to Glen Hollow Lane to keep the public a safe distance away. After firefighters arrived, one person was injured by a bison and taken to the hospital. Casey couldn’t confirm further details on their condition. Firefighters were later called out again at around 1:47 p.m. to help secure the area.
