BINGHAMTON, NY – Ross Park Zoo recently announced its snow leopard, Tushar, was euthanized due to a rapid decline in health.
After a consultation with a veterinarian and their best efforts, the zoo made the decision to euthanize Tushar to avoid prolonged suffering.
“Our staff uses a quality-of-life assessment that includes monitoring activity levels and health indicators to evaluate each animal’s well-being,” Ross Park Zoo said in a Facebook post. “When signs of decline are noticed, staff consult with our veterinarian to determine a course to diagnose and treat the condition.”
