Summary:

Oshawa, CANADA – A kangaroo that was on the loose east of Toronto since last week was found and captured early Monday.

Staff Sgt. Chris Boileau said that officers on patrol spotted the missing marsupial around 3 a.m. on a rural property in north Oshawa and monitored her until they were able to get in touch with the kangaroo’s handlers and on their advice, “they actually just grabbed it by the tail.”

The kangaroo punched one of the officers in the face during the apprehension. Later, police clarified the officer had been struck, not necessarily punched, by the kangaroo.

Cameron Preyde, park supervisor and head keeper for the Oshawa Zoo and Fun Farm, said the animal was in a truck en route to a zoo in Quebec when she jumped over her handlers during what was supposed to be a brief stop for a rest at the facility late Thursday. The handlers attempted to search for the kangaroo, who is about four years old and was being transported alongside her adult offspring, but it was too dark.
