Hail the size of golf balls killed several exotic birds at the Fort Worth Zoo. Five flamingos, a pelican, an ibis, and a swan chick died, and other birds were injured.

A woman found a 4-foot-long ball python on her back patio. Police officers captured the animal, who they believe is a former pet, and turned him over to animal services.

A cockatiel named Bob escaped from the home of Cindy Adams and Mike Smith.

A polar bear named Berit at the Cincinnati Zoo escaped from its enclosure, forcing the zoo to close temporarily. The zoo moved visitors indoors and stated that there was no potential risk to visitors or staff. The bear was moved safely back into her enclosure.

A woman named Mary Thorn successfully fought to keep her 6-foot-long pet alligator after a change to state regulations made the conditions she kept him in illegal. The 125-pound Rambo wears clothes, rides on the back of a motorcycle, and has a bedroom in her home. As a condition for keeping Rambo, Thorn can no longer take him to schools and charity events to teach people about reptiles.

A 5-day-old golden lion tamarin died of unknown causes.

Mitch, a 14-year-old giraffe, was euthanized. He had always had trouble regulating his body temperature, and later experienced leg and foot problems that were treated by a veterinarian for more than a year.

A mountain lion named P-22 is suspected of killing a 14-year-old koala in an outdoor enclosure at the Los Angeles Zoo. Zoo surveillance cameras showed P-22 around the zoo the night of the death.

A 10-month-old female warthog named Makena died of liver failure. It was determined that her liver was poisoned by a plant toxin, but the source – whether it was in food or in a plant eaten inside the warthog enclosure – is not known, according to zoo officials.

Granger, a 10-year-old male cheetah, was euthanized due to a declining quality of life. He suffered from renal and pancreatic disease.
