May 2, 2016 St. Petersburg, FL Travis Treder tried to steal a baby python out of the Animal House Pet Center store by stuffing it down his pants. The owner intervened to recover the snake, and Treder was arrested. Reptiles
April 30, 2016 Tacoma, WA A white ball python fell from a ceiling vent after being loose in Tacoma General Hospital for a month. The owner brought the snake into the hospital in a cat carrier, then lost it. The snake was given back to the owner. Reptiles
April 27, 2016 St. Francis, WI Animal control and police officers removed six snakes, two alligators, a monitor lizard, and a spider from a home after Jeremy Loveland was admitted to a hospital with a bite from a venomous snake. The animals were owned illegally. April 26, 2016 Crookston, MN A 5-6 foot long snake, tentatively identified as a non-venomous hog-nose snake by police, was seen in a residential neighborhood. The Department of Natural Resource’s Area Wildlife Supervisor believes it is an escaped pet. Reptiles
April 25, 2016 Oklahoma City, OK A female Asian elephant named Chandra chased and pushed another female elephant in the same enclosure named Bamboo. Bamboo sustained a 6 inch long, 2 inch wide scrape on the front of her trunk. There have been multiple aggressive incidents between Bamboo and other elephants since she was transferred to Oklahoma City from a zoo in Seattle. Elephants
April 24, 2016 Beaumont, TX Beaumont Animal Services responded to a call about a large snake inside an apartment, and found a 2-foot long ball python inside the resident’s oven. The snake was removed from the apartment. Animal services said it is likely this snake escaped from its owner, or that the owner released it into the wild, which is illegal. Reptiles
April 24, 2016 Medford, NY A 6-foot-long pet alligator was seized from a home by the Suffolk County SPCA after the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation received a complaint that the animal was being kept illegally on the property. The owner was charged by DEC Officers, and the alligator was transported to a wildlife sanctuary. Reptiles
