An alligator bit an animal handler at Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus while being moved from a public viewing pit outside the arena. The handler suffered six punctures to his right hand. The audience at the performance was unaware of the occurrence.

A polar bear escapes from a holding area at the Denver Zoo, forcing a temporary lockdown. Veterinarians shot the bear with a tranquilizer dart and returned it to the enclosure.

A “pet” monkey, Willie, escaped and was loose for several days before being recaptured at a home two miles from where he escaped. Willie was relocated to a primate sanctuary in Texas.

Ninety minutes later Hanna was again found and another dart fired. Hanna charged the group and four police officers fired with handguns and shotguns, killing Hanna.

A 13-month-old boy dies after being attacked by a wolf-hybrid. The child suffered more than a hundred bite wounds and a punctured jugular vein.

A cougar was killed by a car along Interstate 280. It was unclear whether the animal was a “pet” or from the wild.
