October 22, 2010 Rock Springs, WI A 7-year old Siberian tiger grabbed and pulled the arm of a 38-year old volunteer into his cage at the Big Cat Rescue and Educational Center in Rock Springs. The volunteer was pulled away by other volunteers and treated for his injuries. Big Cats
October 20, 2010 Harlem, NY A Parks Dept. employee found a 6-foot python in the Harlem park while picking up trash. The python was thought to be someone’s pet that was abandoned due to its size or aggression. It will likely be taken to a sanctuary. Reptiles
October 19, 2010 Kansas City, MO A 21 year old, 300-pound chimp escaped from its owner and ran rampant through a Kasas City neighborhood damaging cars, property, and scaring people. The owner has been in legal trouble over the chimp since 1995. The chimp had previously injured/bitten people. Primates
October 11, 2010 Idaville, IN Two tigers escaped their pens from Great Cats of Indiana and roamed the compound within the perimeter fence. Because they were trying to jump the perimeter fence, the owner made the decision to shoot them – one was injured and one was killed. Big Cats
October 8, 2010 Bethel, CT The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection seized an African serval cat that was living in a residential basement. It is illegal to possess African servals in the state. The animals was transferred to a facility in Florida. The owner was arrested and fined. Small Cats
October 4, 2010 Orlando, FL Kalina, a 25-year old orca at SeaWorld, died due to a “sudden illness.” This was the third killer-whale death at SeaWorld in four months. Cause of death was determined t be Bacterial Septicemia. Marine
September 29, 2010 Wading River, NY A 3-foot alligator was seized from a liquor store on Long Island. The store’s proprietor told the local newspaper that an employee had axked her to take care of it whie he was apartment hunting and that she believed the animal to be a monitor lizard. Two employees were issued tickets for possession of an illegal animal. The alligtor will be sent to a sanctuary out of state. Reptiles
September 14, 2010 Vero Beach, FL A 3-foot long Nile monitor lizard was captured at a dog park. FL prohibits personal owernship of exotic lizards and this one is believed to have been dumped. Reptiles
September 13, 2010 Bell Gardens, CA 15-year old boy gets bitten by a 2-year old ball python. The python had been left at the home by a woman who used to live in the house and had been living in the wall heater. The boy was unnerved but not injured. Reptiles
