September 11, 2011 Hempstead, TX A Capuchin monkey, one of ten that were let loose when wildfires forced evacuation in Warren County, bit a game warden and was euthanized. September 8, 2011 Los Angeles, CA Two men were charged with animal cruelty after 15 monkeys they were shipping from South America to Thailand were found dead at the Los Angeles International Airport. The men placed 14 Marmoseets, 5 white-fronted Capuchins and 6 Squirrel Monkeys in three wooden boxes in Miami bound for Los Angeles, who were then supposed to transfer to a flight going to China. However, due to irregularity with the shipping documents were denied access to the plane. LAX officials found 14 of the 25 primates were dead, and a Capuchin was rushed to a veterinarian, who had to euthanize the animal. The surviving animals were taken to San Diego Wild Animal Park. September 8, 2011 El Paso, TX El Paso Zoo announced that Wzui, a 6-year old male tiger, was killed by his partner, a female tigress named Sheri. It is suspected that Sheri was jealous of the attention Wzui was giving to another tigress, 15-year old Meli. Big Cats

September 5, 2011 Longview, WA An animal control officer seized 2 large boa contrictors from a Longview apartment saying the snakes posed a danger to a 5-year old boy who lived there. Reptiles
September 5, 2011 Longview, WA The Cowlitz County Humane Society seized a 7-foot albino red-tailed boa constrictor and a 6-foot red-tailed boa. One of the snakes escaped and struck at the officer. Reptiles
September 2, 2011 Del Paso Heights, CA A man was arrested for biting and severely injuring a python. The python, a female, underwent surgery for wounds that were deep enough to expose the creature’s liver. Afterwards, the snake was turned over to the city’s Animal Care Services, where it was reported to be recovering, though it lost several ribs. The man said he had no memory of the incident. Reptiles
September 2, 2011 Clayton, GA A red tail Boa Constrictor was rescued from a truck’s engine. The snake was malnourished and had sustained injuries. It is believed that the snake is a former pet that someone released. Reptiles
