An 8-foot alligator was kept illegally in a residential yard for as long as 40 years. The animal was confiscated and taken to the Los Angeles Zoo where it will remain until an investigation is completed. It is illegal to own an alligator in the state of California without proper permit.

Two cotton-top Tamarin monkeys died after inadvertently being left out overnight in the cold by a zoo caretaker. One other monkey survived.
