Strawberry fayre

in Blog

Rain has been forecast for the past few days, but so far the Sanctuary remains dry. Unfortunately we have not had good rainfall for many months.

A great food delivery this week — lots of avocados and strawberries. The monkeys enjoy both fruits, but the snow monkeys have a particular liking for strawberries. After a satisfying feast of strawberries, bright red lips are the norm.

Unfortunately, not all social introductions work out (from our perspective) and this has been the case with Logan, Frankie, and Loekey. Despite initial positive contact between the three, we noticed that Logan had started to behave nervously around Loekey, even hiding from him. Loekey is a very self-assured individual and it was clear that his rather demanding and overenthusiastic behavior had started to negatively affect Logan who has a more sensitive nature. We have decided to try Loekey with a group of other male snow monkeys, Oscar, Ollie, and McKenzie, all ex-“pets” like him. He has been placed in an enclosure next to this group and we are monitoring the interaction. In the meantime, Logan’s confidence has returned and he is once again active and vocal and enjoying grooming sessions with Frankie.

Until next week,

Sarah
