Summary:

EVANSVILLE, IN – Officials at the Mesker Park Zoo said a Mueller’s Grey Gibbon that had been at the zoo since 2001 has died.

Zookeepers stated that Berta, who celebrated her 59th birthday in July, showed a decreased appetite and was no longer participating in daily activities she enjoyed. An investigation into Berta’s death showed significant age-related changes to multiple organ systems. She arrived at Mesker Park Zoo 24 years ago with her partner, Freddy, who passed away in 2015.
