Working with African Governments to Counter Wildlife Trafficking

Throughout 2017 and 2018, Born Free USA conducted wildlife threat assessments in West African nations, evaluating and determining the role that wildlife crime plays in diminishing biodiversity in the region. Alongside representatives from national governments, we studied the crimes that occur, wildlife law enforcement capacity, priority needs, public awareness, and other factors relating to efforts to counter and prevent wildlife crime. We also worked with government authorities to validate and formalize our findings into official documents that could then be used to formulate law enforcement and public outreach plans.
