No More Zanesvilles: Speak Out in Support of the Big Cat Public Safety Act!

On October 18, 2011, 56 captive wild animals – including numerous tigers, lions, mountain lions, and leopards – were set loose by their “owner” in Zanesville, Ohio. What followed was a night of chaos and slaughter as police officers, caught in a lose-lose situation and fearing for public safety, proceeded to shoot to kill any animal they came across. When all was said and done, only six animals were captured alive and taken to a nearby zoo. The rest were dead. Today, there are still millions of wild animals kept as pets all across the U.S., including roughly 10,000 – 20,000 captive big cats. On the anniversary of the Zanesville massacre, speak out in support of the Big Cat Public Safety Act, a Federal bill that would prohibit ownership of big cats by private individuals and unqualified exhibitors.
