Lifting the Ivory Ban Will not Protect Elephants

In this op-ed, Mark Jones, Program manager at the Born Free Foundation, argues that lifting the ban on ivory sales will not help protect elephants from poaching, as authorities in some nations argue, but would likely lead to more poaching. As he says, lifting the ban on ivory “would send a mixed message to governments, consumers and traders at a time when the international community is coming together to shut the trade down.”
