In Congo, a War for Africa’s Elephants

in Animal News

Rangers in Garamba National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo struggle to protect the park’s elephant population—and one another—from poachers. In 2015, the park saw 28 firefights with poachers, which left 114 elephants and four rangers dead. More than 30,000 elephants are killed in Africa each year to supply the $3 billion per year trade in illicit ivory. Learn more about this illegal trade at www.bloodyivory.org.
