Roberts explains that habitat encroachment, disease, and, most of all, human-caused influences (like poaching, retaliatory killing, and trophy hunting) contribute to the decimation of the species. “When you put all of these factors together,” Roberts says, “you really find that there’s a problematic situation that’s imperiling the species across the continent.”
