As you know, our overriding organizational goal is to Keep Wildlife In The Wild®. We’re so committed to that philosophy that we have registered the phrase!
We come at the issue from several directions, including outreach and education, legislation and lobbying, and grassroots activism. We also invest in wildlife protection on the ground.

That last approach, more often than the others, can yield immediately gratifying, concrete results. Take, for example, our Global Field Projects. When we contribute to these 13 hands-on projects, which span over three continents, we definitely enjoy a lot of “bang for the buck.” Money goes further in Honduras or Sri Lanka than it does in more industrialized countries.
Most recently we received some great news from Cameroon, where the Last Great Ape Organization (LAGA) project, which we support, reports it arrested four suspected animal-parts traders (the charges related to smuggled elephant tusks and teeth, and live mandrill primates) over a one-week period in early July. Also that week, a man LAGA had arrested on charges related to the killing of elephants was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison.

I’ve written before about LAGA’s founder and director, Ofir Drori. He’s one of the good guys, and the work he and his team do to bring the bad guys to justice makes me proud to be part of the animal protection movement and grateful for the support Born Free USA can provide to LAGA.
