Despite a complaint by animal rights groups, MGM Mirage has been given a permit to import two Atlantic bottlenose dolphins for public display and breeding purposes. The new dolphins, a male and a female, will be housed in Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden on the Strip. The permit was granted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service on August 4th. It was opposed by the organizations Born Free USA and The World Society for the Protection of Animals, which cited the previous deaths of two other dolphins at the habitat.
