The Thrill of Victory!

As I begin writing this blog, I am reminded of the old ABC television montage for weekend sports programming that featured the late Jim McKay declaring in voice-over, “The thrill of victory! The agony of defeat!”

Today, I feel like the part of the montage featuring victories! On Sunday, December 7, Team Elsa successfully completed the California International Marathon relay — and not without a bit of transportation drama, a late start, cold weather, and gray skies to boot.
[teaserbreak] Did we win any awards? Well, technically, no. But for Team Elsa, the marathon was a way to raise awareness about our organization, participate in a wonderful local event, and show others how they, too, can fundraise for animals in their own towns and cities.

Tracy in ChiaAnd with the help of some wonderful supporters out there — thank you! — we raised $3,045. Each and every dollar truly makes a difference in our ability to continue protecting, rescuing, and advocating for wild animals in need in the United States and around the world. And yes, that’s me with the Chia leopard hat on — which added to the fun and provided some wonderful photo opportunities along the route. I’m already planning next year’s costume!

What’s more, I am thrilled to announce news about a gal who has challenged herself to run 50 marathons in 50 states — in support of Born Free USA! Cindy Haug-West, pictured with Team Elsa after the race, is already training for the Maui marathon in January 2009. Please consider supporting her efforts as she runs on behalf of animals everywhere who cannot. We’ll begin marking her progress, training, and “x-ing” off completed states on a special web page to go live very soon, so be sure to check back.

Now it’s your turn to go the extra mile by supporting Cindy’s awe-inspiring efforts, or by finding your own way to become a hero for the animals.

Until then, share our victory!

Blogging off,

Tracy
