SB 1207 Would Require the Reporting of “Nuisance” Wildlife Actions [2004]

in Massachusetts

Update: Unfortunately, this bill did not complete the entire legislative process prior to Session adjournment.

Bill Description: This bill would require permitted “nuisance” wildlife control operators to report certain data, including the actions they take to correct human-wildlife conflicts.

SB 1207 will require minimal information from the “nuisance” wildlife control operators. The Division of Fisheries & Wildlife has oversight responsibility for this industry but it currently lacks adequate records to monitor the impact that wildlife damage control operators have on native wildlife. SB 1207, if passed, would address that lack of data. Currently, commercial fur trappers have to report the number and species of animals they trap each year to the Division of Fisheries & Wildlife. This should also be required of wildlife damage control trappers and SB 1207 would address this inconsistency.
