The bear, the wolf, and the hunting dog

I just had to shake my head at the recent newspaper report about wolves killing bear-hunting dogs in Wisconsin.

When a wolf kills a bear-hunting dog they call it “depredation,” a term used to describe the “plundering” of an “agricultural resource” valued by humans — this carries rather negative connotations and hence inflames anti-wolf attitudes ... bad news for wolves.

But when humans use hunting dogs to chase down and kill a bear it’s called “hunting” or “sport.”

The animals lose no matter what ... all of them, the bear, the wolf, and the hunting dog.

Let’s just call it what it is ... Sad.

Blogging off,

Monica
