Have you wondered what it would be like to live in a world free of violence, exploitation, fear — a world where humans and animals could live together, consciously aware of the importance of each being’s role in this delicate web of life?
If you have, you’re surely not alone and I bet you care a lot about animals, too! I know what you’re thinking — how can I help to create such a world?
It might sound clichéd, but everyone can do something to help. Many times supporters will call or write us in response to a troubling news story involving animals, asking what they can do to help. Obviously, caring about animals can be overwhelming, especially when you think of the dreadful ways they are frequently treated. But don’t get discouraged — each person must realize that he/she can’t do everything, but collectively — and individually — we can all do something to make a difference.
With climate change of major concern to people everywhere, take a moment to think about how your life impacts your surroundings and particularly animals. Once you are armed with the knowledge that your actions or behavior may be harmful to animals, you can find solutions or ways to eliminate that behavior. For example, by not attending circuses that exploit animals, you contribute to the declining patronage at these events. To learn how you can help even more, click here.
Everyone can do something and every effort is important — no matter how insignificant it may seem to you. Enjoying a vegetarian dish at a local restaurant with your friends can have a truly powerful impact. How you regard animals may influence how others eventually regard them too.
One of my favorite quotes speaks volumes for what people can do to make a difference:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” — Margaret Mead, Anthropologist (1901–1978)
We’re committed to making a difference for animals. We need your help and we hope we can count on you!
Till next time!
