It is not every day that you can write about a positive victory for the animals, but thankfully today is one of those days. We won our lawsuit to help protect Canada lynx from cruel and indiscriminate traps.

In September 2006, Born Free USA (and later joined by the Center for Biological Diversity) filed a lawsuit against the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for violation of the Endangered Species Act for allowing trappers to set traps and snares that catch, injure, and kill Canada lynx, a threatened species. This past Monday, March 31, 2008, the court ordered the state to take all action necessary to ensure that no further takings of lynx will occur by trapping activities within core lynx habitat.

This is a huge victory for the species and will send a loud message to other states that body-gripping traps should be prohibited. Please help us in our efforts to end this cruel and unnecessary practice in other states — together we will make a difference.
