CBS Evening News recently aired a good segment about the challenges captive parrots (and those who care for them) face. Captive parrots represent the largest population of captive wildlife and like all wild animals they belong in the wild.

Of course parrots that are currently in captivity need to be cared for as best as possible and because of the huge number there simply are not enough sanctuaries to care for them all. This is why Born Free USA has a list of “10 things” parrot caretakers can do to improve the quality of life for birds in their care. This is part of our dynamic National Bird Day Campaign aimed at raising awareness of the plight of captive birds. It’s never too early to start planning an event — we have lots of ideas.
