Mikey was killed after he bit a young girl while being walked in public on a leash.

Trenton, MI — Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute (Born Free USA), a national animal advocacy organization, is calling upon public health officials to publicly declare that they will not kill Mikey, the monkey who bit a six-year-old Trenton girl earlier this week. The monkey’s owner was walking him on a leash outside a church when the incident occurred.

Born Free USA offers lifetime care for rescued monkey

Orlando, FL — Born Free USA is offering to re-home Prada, a “pet” monkey who escaped from an apartment building in Orlando on Friday, at its Primate Sanctuary near San Antonio, Texas. The Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary is home to more than 500 macaques, baboons, and vervets, many of whom came from deplorable or inappropriate private homes or businesses. It is one of the very few in the U.S. that provide large, free-ranging, natural enclosures. The Sanctuary features 186 acres of dense vegetation with several ponds. The majority of monkeys live freely in these enclosures with minimum human interference.

Court Rules in Favor of Threatened Lynx

Minnesota's State Trapping Program Violates Endangered Species Act

Minneapolis, MN — A federal judge today ruled that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is in violation of the Endangered Species Act for allowing trappers to set traps and snares that catch, injure, and kill Canada lynx, a protected species. The case was filed on behalf of Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute (Born Free USA) and the Center for Biological Diversity. The court ordered the state to take all action necessary to ensure that no further takings of lynx will occur by trapping activities within core lynx habitat.
