Texas Court OKs Request to Transfer 112 Macaques and One Baboon, Marking One of the Largest Single Macaque Rescues in U.S. History
On Nov. 21, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas, San Antonio Division, ruled in favor of the transfer of 113 animals — 112 macaques and one baboon — from the now defunct Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) in San Antonio, Texas, to The Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary in Dilley, Texas. This is thought to be one of the largest rescues of macaques in history.

Panel Issues Preliminary Findings
The People's Forum Panel on Public Lands Trapping in New Mexico issued an online survey, for the period Oct. 5 to Nov. 5, intended to engage all members of the public on the issue of trapping. More than 2,400 citizens took the survey and the results showed that 90 percent were opposed to public lands trapping.
Born Free USA Ready to Work with Ohio Governor, Offers Model Legislation on Exotic Pet Ownership Following Today’s Executive Order
In the wake of this week’s Zanesville, OH, wild animal tragedy, today Ohio Gov. John Kasich issued Executive Order 2011-20K, which makes commitments that include working with local humane societies, law enforcement and public officials to approach the issue of regulating ownership of private exotics; rigorously reviewing existing native wild animal permits and auctions; shutting down unlicensed auctions; and confiscating and re-homing exotic animals who have been abused or are kept in substandard conditions.
