It is no wonder that President Obama had such an emotional reaction — a reaction shared by millions who have also seen the film and been touched by its message.
The star of the legendary film, Virginia McKenna, who portrayed Joy Adamson and is the mother of Born Free USA's CEO, Will Travers, wrote to President Obama during the campaign, urging him to do everything in his power to ensure that wild animals and wild places are protected. "We need to redouble our efforts to assist the billions of people in need — and also the animals with whom we share the planet."
The story of Born Free is the story of Elsa and her return to freedom. It is a story of compassion, and Barack Obama is poised to create a more compassionate America ... and perhaps a more compassionate world.
Born Free USA, a national animal protection and wildlife conservation organization inspired by the film, believes that every individual animal matters and deserves our protection. We stand ready to work with President Obama and his Administration to pursue vigorously our vital animal protection campaigns.
With your help, we will be wildly successful!
