Prince Charles Calls for War on Animal Poachers

Prince Charles has warned that criminal gangs are turning to animal poaching, an unprecedented slaughter of species that can only be stopped by waging war on the perpetrators, in the latest of a series of increasingly outspoken speeches about the environment.

California Japanese Restaurant Skewered for Serving Lion Meat

Mokutanya charcoal grill recently added African lion to the menu as a promotional item, and news accounts have generated a swiftly developing backlash on Facebook and other social media sites. Meanwhile, an animal rights advocate, who has investigated how lion meat is produced, said consumers should be wary.

Wildlife Agency Looking into Croc’s Death in Keys

Wildlife officials are looking for answers after a crocodile was found dead in Florida Bay. The croc’s body was found floating in the water near Islamorada on Sunday (May 12), according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Born Free USA's Adam Roberts appeared on "Inside Edition" on May 17 to explain why restaurants should not be serving lion meat. Watch a video of the segment. Lion meat is appearing with increasing frequency on menus across the land. Just this month, lion tacos debuted at Taco Fusion in Tampa, FL. As Born Free USA showed in a 2011 undercover investigation, the lion meat industry is shady and under-regulated, and places both people and animals at risk. Consumers, restaurant owners and policy-makers are all equally responsible for putting a stop to this risky business by refusing to buy or sell lion meat and by pushing for and passing stronger regulations and prohibitions on the possession, slaughter and sale of lions in the United States.

Colorado Wildlife Ranger Fined for Poaching Mule Deer

A Colorado Parks and Wildlife ranger has been fined and demoted, but not fired, for using artificial light while poaching a trophy mule deer after legal hunting hours last October.

Montana Looks to Expand Hunting of Wolves Despite Criticism

Conservationists are criticizing a plan by wildlife managers in Montana that would nearly double the number of wolves a person is allowed to kill each year, lengthen the hunting season and sanction shooting of wolves near baited traps.

South Dakota Wildlife Officers Kill Three Mountain Lions

Life is more relaxed in Keystone these days, following the shooting of three mountain lions that had confronted dogs, strolled through yards and killed deer on city streets. State Game, Fish & Parks Department officers killed an adult female lion and two 40-pound kittens in Keystone on the nights of May 5 and May 6 after a string of cat sightings in town over several weeks.
