The Animal Protection Institute
API has been working on exotic bird related issues for over 5 years, has produced educational materials on the problem with abused and unwanted exotic birds in the United States and has produced a documentary video exploring the impact of the pet trade on birds in captivity and in the wild. API has also been an active member of the Avian Welfare Coalition (AWC) - a working alliance of veterinarians, avian rescue groups, animal protection and conservation organizations, since the group's inception in 2000. API worked to make California the first state in the nation to regulate the sale of unweaned baby birds in pet shops and other retail markets, and has drafted model legislation for use in other states.
The Animal Protection Institute (API) is a national animal advocacy nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, contributions to which are tax-deductible. Founded in 1968, API's mission is to advocate for the protection of animals from cruelty and exploitation.
