Take Action

You can help stop the exploitation and abuse of exotic birds in many ways:
-
Never buy a bird from a pet store or breeder. If you feel you are qualified and prepared to provide lifetime care for a bird or birds, adopt from a bird rescue group or contact a local bird club or humane society to find a bird in need.
-
Report Abuse. If you see a bird who is being neglected or abused, report it to your local humane organization or animal control agency; or contact the local law enforcement office or nearest humane agency.
-
Ask your local pet shop not to sell live animals.

Support pet shops that do not sell live animals:
Let Born Free USA united with API know which pet shops in your area don't sell live animals — we'll send them a "Thank You" note and let other advocates know where they can shop for companion animal supplies without compromising their conscience. Send store information to advocacy@bornfreeusa.org -
Tell Petco and PETsMART to stop exploiting birds.
