Update (December 2013): This bill failed to pass the Senate in January 2012. A modified version was introduced as S.B. 540/H.B. 449 on 12/16/2013.

Update (January 2012): This bill has been withdrawn from consideration by the Senate. We will continue to advocate for its reintroduction.

Bill description: Senate Bill 1002 would prohibit the possession, sale, trade, or distribution of shark fins in Florida. The bill would also provide up to a $15,000 fine per violation.

Massachusetts: H. 85 Increases Penalties for Pet Shop Violations (UPDATED)

Update (August 2012): The bill did not pass this year.

Bill description: This bill requires pet shops to provide free basic care information on all birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish sold on the premises. The information is required to be developed with and approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Veterinary Medicine.
