ADOPT BETSY NOW

For 33 years, Betsy was kept as a “pet” in Louisiana. She lived in a small, cramped cage, with little room to move and no opportunity to interact with other baboons. But, when she arrived at the Primate Sanctuary, everything changed.

Betsy now enjoys a life that closely resembles that in the wild: ample space, the ability to feel the ground beneath her feet, and freedom to move around her enclosure. And, she now has the chance to form relationships with other primates, including her best friend, Bruce, a fellow baboon.

Despite her somewhat advanced age, Betsy is full of life and personality. She loves blankets, towels, and stuffed animals, and always has one with her. When shifting her from one side of her enclosure to the other, she will run and grab a blanket or stuffed animal to ensure that she will have one for the other side. She will often sit or lay on the blankets, too, and staff has observed her spreading out a blanket on the ground so that she can lie on it.
