Fur for the Animals

Launched in 2014, Born Free USA’s Fur for the Animals campaign is a donation drive to collect coats, hats, and other accessories made from animal fur. The primary goal of this campaign is to enable fur donations to wildlife rehabilitation centers and animal sanctuaries across the country, which use the fur to provide familiar comfort, warmth, and enrichment to injured, orphaned, and rescued wildlife.

Each year that we have collected fur donations, the number of donated fur items had tripled from the previous year. The majority of donated items are fur coats and stoles made from mink, rabbit, and fox. Other items have been made entirely from the tails of coyotes, Geoffroy’s cat (a South American cat that was nearly wiped out due to the fur trade in the 1960s – 1980s), white-tailed deer, bison, zebra, and mountain lion.

Since the start of the campaign in 2014...

2,594

Number of fur items donated through the Fur for the Animals program.

$5.4 Mil

Monetary value of the donated fur items.

84,305

Number of animals who died to produce the donated fur items.

3x

Every year we collect fur, donations triple from the year before.
