Roll Out the Red Carpet for Compassion!
On Sept. 22 in Hollywood, Born Free USA hosted the second fffashion L.A., a one-of-a-kind fashion show celebrating designers who understand ethical and environmental benefits of forgoing fur fashion.
Born Free USA's Fur Free Fashion Competition (fffashion) and fur free fashion show provide an opportunity to honor and celebrate compassionate designers and to educate the public and the fashion industry about stopping the sale and glamorization of fur.
The show was a smashing success. (See for yourself by watching a fun 4-minute video!) About 300 guests, including fashion industry representatives, celebrities, designers and fashion lovers, filled the venue and saw firsthand that fur free is fabulous.
The event also provided a fantastic opportunity for compassionate fashion networking, bringing likeminded people together and creating new supporters of fur free fashion who now will share their fur free fffever with friends.
Yan Fong traveled all the way from Hong Kong to attend the show. Her fur free fashion line, YANE MODE, made its U.S. premiere at fffashion L.A. Also making a U.S. premiere at our show was KissinCussin, a fur free, eco-friendly and fair trade clothing company from Australia.
In addition to emerging fur free designers, the show also featured top fur free designers such as Dalia MacPhee, whose stunning evening gowns frequently are donned by celebrities at awards shows and red carpet galas, and Sherri Hill, a well-known designer of prom and pageant evening wear whose designs are also coveted by celebrities for red carpet events.
Also showcased were Pretty Birdie by Stephanie Teague, Ashley Cook, Rene Geneva, Soreyda Benedit Begley, Donna Salyers' Fabulous Furs, Cri de Coeur (shoes), Imoshion (handbags) and Tea Tree Designs (jewelry). (Read more about these fffabulous people and businesses here.)
The show included winning designers from Born Free USA's third annual Fur Free Fashion Competition (fffashion) that were selected by a celebrity panel of judges: international design and couture legend Elizabeth Emanuel (perhaps best-known for creating Princess Diana's wedding gown), Rachelle Carson-Begley ("Living with Ed" on Discovery's Planet Green), Julia Barr ("All My Children"), Kristin Bauer (Pam on HBO's "True Blood"), Brita Belli (editor of E-The Environmental Magazine); and Summer Rayne Oakes (eco-model, activist and green living expert).
