Changing the World Looks Good
While working to protect animals and their habitats often involves lots of sweat and tears, it also can involve laughter and fun — while looking good. In an effort to bring positive attention to compassionate designers who understand the ethical and environmental benefits of forgoing fur fashion, Born Free USA teamed up with Michelle Harris, host of the television series "Alive and Well," on Oct. 14, 2010, to host fffashion L.A.
fffashion L.A. was a high-profile, one-of-a-kind fashion show that infused Los Angeles with the best in "kind couture" — cutting-edge fashions that are friendly to animals and the environment. The show was hosted at the swanky Stone Rose Lounge in Los Angeles, and as you can see it was a star-studded evening to remember, drawing an extraordinary guest list of celebrities, VIPs and fashion and animal lovers. The show built on the success of Born Free USA's fur-free fashion competition, featuring four of 2010's competition winners including Valerie Mayen of "Project Runway Season 8" as well as leading fur-free and eco-designers Dalia MacPhee, Rene Geneva, Sherri Hill, Stop Starring! and WannaWearByTinaO.
Stylish shoes for the models were provided by compassionate fur- and leather-free shoe companies Mink and Saint Francis Couture. The looks were worn by celebrity models Leah Ashley, co-host of "Fabulous on a Budget"; Juliette Beavan, lead singer for 8mm; Gretchen Bonaduce, star of "Re-inventing Bonaduce"; Rachelle Carson-Begley, wife of actor Ed Begley Jr. and star of the hit reality show "Living With Ed"; Julie Garcia, television host; Sarah Karges, actress, model and co-host of the new series for Fox Sports "NHRA Unleashed!"; Amber Meade, star of "Bad Girls Club" on the Oxygen network; Sarah Michaels, also of "Bad Girls Club"; and Brittney Powell, an actress who for years played a character on "General Hospital" and whose recent guest roles include one on "Two and a Half Men."
Celebrity hair stylist Billy Lowe from the Billy Lowe Hair Studio and his wonderful team of stylists were responsible for creating the fabulous hair and make-up for our celebrity models. Everything ran smoothly thanks in part to "Kool" Keita Lovelace, who served as our fashion show stylist and producer. Kool is known as the go-to stylist in the entertainment industry, with his celebrity clients topping best-dressed lists frequently.
