Exotic Animal Incident Report

Reported: Apr 03, 2007
Location: Toledo, Ohio

Animal: Impala
Animal Disposition: dead

Facility Type: Accredited AZA Zoo
Facility Name: Toledo Zoo

Category: Animal Death, Animal Death by human, Animal health issue
Species: Other

Summary: A 21-month-old male impala was found dead in a transport crate at the Toledo Zoo. He was given anesthesia a day earlier prior to loading him into the crate — in preparation for transfer to another zoo — and he was slow to recover. A necropsy indicated that the impala died from complications from an old neck injury that had worsened.
