Even though the CITES meetings happen every two years, work on the issues covered happens throughout the on and off years. The debate over protection of African elephants and the ivory trade is always the most volatile at the meetings; so making sure the US Delegation to the Meeting opposes the proposals to trade in elephant ivory as strenuously as possible is always important.
