S 2699 Bans the Use of Bullhooks on Elephants [2006]

Bill Description: This bill will would prohibit the use of bullhooks, ankuses and chains on elephants. In addition, the bill prohibits the possession of bullhooks and ankuses.

Circus elephants are routinely beaten with bullhooks and other devices. In addition, they are forced to learn unnatural tricks which teach children nothing about their actual behavior. The use of such devices can break their skin and cause damage and scarring. As such, their use in inhumane and should be banned.
