Keep Wildlife in the Wild Photo Contest 2011

Congratulations to Betsy Seeton of Taylor Park, Colo., for winning Born Free USA's first photography contest! Her triumph is doubly impressive because she won both the Backyard and Worldwide categories, and as such will receive both first-place prizes — a photo printer and a pair of binoculars.

Seeton, a private investigator who also specializes in wildlife and nature photography, took the winning shots with her Sony A100 camera. Her Backyard entry, "Squirrel Sniffs," was snapped outside her cabin in the Rocky Mountains southwest of Denver. Her Worldwide entry, "Two Chipmunks," was taken nearby.

Runners-up to Seeton in the Backyard category were "Raccoon on Porch" by Juanita Eisinger of Livonia, Mich.; and "Raccoon Hanging" by Phyllis Wald-Fast of Gillette, N.J. In the Worldwide category, second place went to "Owl in Snow" in Presqu'ile Provincial Park, Canada, by Alex Thomson of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; and in third place was "Baby Elephant" in Kareiga Game Reserve, South Africa, by Kimberley Mazzoni of San Francisco.

More than 40 photographs were submitted and more than 1,500 votes cast in our Keep Wildlife in the Wild Photo Contest 2011. We thank everyone who participated and encourage all of you — as you're being respectful of all wildlife, of course! — to take cool photographs of wildlife and enter them in our next contest.
